Default installation

samedi-app installation can be done by every user and does not need any administrative privileges. This is the easiest way to install and launch samedi-app!

Who it's for:

We recomment this for smaller institutions with just a few computers and users. samedi-app is always automatically up-to-date.

Who it's not for:

For institutions where many users work on the same computer (e.g. a terminal server) or with many computers we recommend the MSI for per-user installation

Details

  • samedi-app will be installed into the user profile of each user (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\samedi-app).
  • Every user manually installs their own version of samedi-app
  • Automatic updates are downloaded and installed for each user

How it’s done

  • Download the installer package:
  • Launch the installer
  • Done! samedi-app is now installed and will launch automatically!

MSI for per-user installation

The MSI for per-user deployment adds the samedi-app Installer machine-wide, rather than individually installing samedi-app.

Who it's for:

This method works best for institutions that want to make sure that samedi-app is installed on all computers for all users, while automatically updating samedi-app.

Who it's not for:

When you’re mostly working on your own computer, we recommend the default installation.

When there are many users working on the came computer (e.g. a terminal server), you have policies in place which disallow automatic updates or you must test every update internally before rolling it out, we recommend you use the MSI for machine-wide installation method.

Details

  • The MSI for per-user installation only installs the default installer machine-wide
  • When a user logs in, this machine-wide installer is automatically executed and installs samedi-app for this user into their profile folder (%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\samedi-app).
  • Automatic updates are downloaded and installed for each user

How it’s done

  • Download the installation program:
  • Launch the installer (this needs administrative privileges)
  • Sign out of your Windows user account.
  • Sign back into your Windows user account.
  • samedi-app is now automatically being installed for your Windows user account

MSI for machine-wide installation

The MSI for single installation deployment installs samedi-app machine-wide. It is multi-client-capable, meaning that it can be used by multiple users on one machine, keeping their profile data and settings separate. Using this method, samedi-app will not receive automatic updates.

Who it's for:

This method is best suited for large institutions, for terminal servers and/or when you must test and manage each update of samedi-app yourself.

Who it's not for:

If you want to keep samedi-app updated automatically or have only a few users and computers, you should not use this method and instead use one of the other installation methods.

Details

  • MSI for machine-wide installation only installs one copy of samedi-app per machine
  • You have to keep samedi-app up-to-date yourself, as there are no automatic updates!
